Install and uninstall screen savers

You can install screen savers created by companies other than Apple and use them with Screen Saver preferences on your computer.

Install a screen saver from the Apple website
  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Desktop & Screen Saver, and then click Screen Saver.
  2. Click the Add button (+) below the Screen Saver list and choose Browse Screen Savers. The Apple website opens to a page of downloadable icons and screen savers.
  3. Click the Download button for the screen saver you want to install, and follow the instructions.
Install a screen saver from other websites
  1. Download or drag the screen saver installer to your hard disk.
  2. Important: Download screen savers onlyfrom trusted websites. If you have any doubt about the reliabilityof a website, don’t download screen savers (or anything else) fromthat site.
  3. Double-click the screen saver’s icon.
  4. If the screen saver has an installer, follow its instructions.
  5. If the screen saver doesn’t have an installer, drag it to /Library/Screen Savers at the top level of your internal disk.

Uninstall a screen saver
  • Open Screen Saver preferences, select the screen saver you want to uninstall, and click the Remove button (-).
  • If you can’t remove the screen saver in Screen Saver preferences, locate the file for the screen saver in the Screen Savers folder and drag it to the Trash.
The Screen Savers folder is in the Library folder.
